AARP Group Health Insurance

AARP group health insurance is available to group members and their spouses over the age of 50. This insurance plan is called the Health Care Options Program and is offered by the AARP, which stands for the American Association of Retired Persons. This organization has offered supplemental insurance for Medicare and Medicaid as well as recommendations for seniors looking for health insurance coverage. The Options Program has offered more choices for seniors since 1997. The plan provides things like individual health insurance, discounts on dental and vision care, savings on prescription drugs and more.

One advantage of this insurance by AARP is that you can choose which healthcare providers you want rather than this being chosen for you. If you select healthcare providers within the designated network, there are no forms to fill out and you get dramatic savings. How much your premiums will be depend on certain factors including your age. There are copayments and fixed costs with each service which may include things like checkups and even inpatient stays at hospitals. You don't have to worry about your rates changing based on changes in your circumstances. If any changes are made they affect every policy holder within the plan.

The health insurance plans available from AARP are limited to particular states as far as primary care is concerned. There are currently sixteen states offering this type of general health insurance. Plans such as dental, inpatient hospital and vision care are available in a larger number of states. Part of the coverage available is called AARP Pharmacy Services, which allows the policy holders to get free and/or discounted supplies for particular conditions such as diabetes and difficulty walking. As a policy holder you will also get Health Essentials which is a catalog with products exclusive to members.

If you have questions about AARP group health insurance, contact the organization. The AARP website contains a wealth of helpful information. In addition, you can call their toll free helpline and speak directly to a customer service representative. The organization can send you lots of helpful materials including applications, literature and more. All seniors should take advantage of the many benefits the AARP has to offer. This organization even has their own magazine devoted to all aspects of healthy and prosperous living for seniors and retired persons.
